With each new day comes new strength and if you’re lucky, you wake up with new thoughts. If you’re still thinking about things that made you sad last night, you’re likely to have another bad day. The best way to boost your mood and energize yourself when you wake is to let go of past events and focus on what’s yet to come. Here’s a list of some necessary things that will help you make your days better based on what some wellness experts believe.
Start with a smile
If you start your day with a smile on your face, you’d be able to set up a happy tone for the entire day. Spa and wellness manager, Gabriela Zoltakova, says, “My intention for the entire day starts here. While still in bed, I think of something that makes me smile (animal, person, positive situation, or a place) and hold that feeling, enjoying a wave of endorphins and serotonin rushing in. Being in a positive state has significant impact on motivation, productivity, and well-being. Get those happy brain chemicals moving!”
Set alarm for the same time everyday
Lifestyle expert Jeanette Zinno is of the view that one should try to wake up at the same time every day. “This improves my sleep quality which boosts my energy and keeps my circadian rhythm in check,” she shares. “If I went for a long bike ride or did Pilates the day before and am feeling sore, I’ll stretch with TheraBands.”
Drink lemon water
One of the most powerful ways to start your day is to consume lemon water that helps boost your immune system, thanks to vitamin C. Experts advise that squeezing ½ a lemon into a cup of water alkalizes the body which keeps it feeling energized and fresh in the morning. They say it’s the “quickest, simplest and most affordable thing we can do in the morning”.
Enhance your caffeine fix
While the intake of caffeine in the morning helps you stay active, adding some coconut oil and honey to it will do wonders for you. According to Zoltakova, “I boost my rich dark coffee by adding a spoonful of cold-pressed coconut oil and a spoonful of honey. Both ingredients have been known to gently detox, speed up metabolism, and aid with digestion. Super delicious and energizing!”
Have a healthy breakfast
The biggest mistake we generally do is skipping breakfast which is certainly the most important meal of the day. It is highly recommended by nutritionists that one should begin the day with a healthy breakfast packed with protein and fiber (it can be scrambled eggs with sausage or yogurt with blueberries and nuts). “According to nutritionist, Colette Heimowitz, “There are several benefits, including [that] you eliminate spikes and slumps in your blood sugar and you can achieve weight-management goals when you consume fewer carbs and replace them with high-fiber carbohydrates, healthy fats, and adequate protein.”
Motivate yourself while putting on makeup
When you get pumped for your day, try to make use of motivational audio books or videos on YouTube, advises Dr. Splichal who believes this is more energizing than pumped-up music. She says, “The words hit at what inspires success and drives productivity. Imagine what 10 minutes a day of motivational videos can do to your overall sense of purpose and vision.”
Maintain a gratitude journal
“Studies show that giving thanks makes you happier and healthier all around,” states Dr Emily Kiberd, founder of a wellness clinic. Whether you’re thanking yourself, those around you, or the great divine, there are incredible benefits wrapped up in the simple act of writing down what you’re grateful for.”
