Review: Horrible Bosses

The Horrible Bosses sequel lives up to its name

Review: Horrible Bosses

Horrible Bosses 2
* 1/2

Dir:  Sean Anders
Starring: Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx, Chris Pine

Horrible Bosses was a fitfully funny comedy, which managed to elicit some genuine chuckles along with some groans. It was okay for a slow afternoon but one  didn’t walk away from the movie feeling you really had to see any further adventures of the put-upon trio of best friends (Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day) trying to get out from under the thumbs of their horrible bosses. The sequel absolutely confirms that reaction.

The plot this time around is even less convincing than that of the first movie and there are hardly any laughs.

The three best friends are back but this time they are their own bosses as they aim to launch their own product, “the Shower Buddy”. They find themselves in a bit of a bind when dealing with the devious father and son duo of Christoph Waltz and Chris Pine. This then sets them off on another ill-advised criminal endeavour.

There is the odd moment or two when you may find yourself smiling – usually when a familiar character from the first movie pops up such as the ex-boss with the anger issues (Kevin Spacey) or the dentist with a sex-addiction (Jennifer Aniston) or the black gangsta (he’s actually quite harmless) dispensing useless criminal advice (Jamie Foxx).

The lead trio do their bit and Chris Pine does bring some energy to his role but the cast really doesn’t have much to work with. The uber-talented Christop Waltz is actually totally wasted in the film.

This series should now be put to rest. Please.

Cut to chase: This sequel is quite horrible
