Beauty Station! Award winning beauty tips

Instep Desk

With New Year comes the need for beauty inspiration and the recently held Golden Globes Awards (kick-starting a long awards season) did set the tone for some amazing beauty looks this year. Often anticipated as a precursor to the Oscars, the star-studded event honours the past year’s best films and television programs and brings together all of TV and film’s biggest stars under the same roof.

While last year’s ceremony was dominated by classic, glamorous looks, this year the stars turned out to be more experimental with their appearances. The 74th Annual Golden Globes red carpet was full of glitz and glamour and gave us some of the most imaginative beauty moments to remember! Be it Kerry Washington’s vampy lipstick or Emily Ratajkowski’s shorter locks or Lily Collins’ creative combination of pink and red. Let’s take a closer look at some winning beauty looks that can easily be recreated here in Pakistan.

Pink-meets-red look

BTS_1Nominated for her performance in Rules Don’t Apply, actress Lily Collin proved that pink and red can be a winning combination. She opted for a pink shadow and paired it with red lips. To top it off, her braided updo added the princess factor to it, creating a dramatic look. “I wanted the lips to be powdery matte, just an intense stamp of red,” says her makeup artist, Fiona Stiles who used Lancôme’s Color Design Eyeshadow in Pink Pearls all over her lids and the brand’s L’Absolu Rouge lipstick in Souvenir on her lips.

Dark lips

BTS_2The best beauty look of the night turned out to be dark lips sported by actress Kerry Washington and Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra. Washington stood out for her statement-making lip colour; she went for an inky plum shade to complement her gold gown. Her makeup artist Carola Gonzalez went for Dolce & Gabbana Glam lipstick in 355 to layer with Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Deep Plum. Washington’s look was incomplete without her long, voluminous lashes and a sleek, side parted updo.

Dramatic chop

BTS_4Debuting a new short hair look with monochromatic lids and lips, Emily Ratajkowski rocked a new lob cut at the Golden Globes 2017. Expertly pinned and rolled into place, Ratajkowski’s hair created the appearance of a dramatic chop. Separating the actress’ hair into top and bottom sections, celebrity hairstylist Christian Wood braided her lower layers and tucked them under the rest of her hair while she created bends and waves using Uberliss’ Flat Iron.

60s-inspired classic look

BTS_3The expecting actress Natalie Portman showed up at the Golden Globes in a canary yellow Prada gown and vintage Tiffany jewels dating back to 1910. Nominated for her role as Jackie Kennedy in the biopic Jackie, the actress brought her film character to life at the event. Portman’s ’60s inspired long sleeves, jewel-encrusted outfit and pulled back hair bore close resemblance with Jackie O’s style for eveningwear.  Her red carpet makeup look was adorned by bold brows and fresh peony pink lips.

Braided updo

BTS_5Olivia Culpo is very creative with her looks and she was not shy to sport a colourful gown with a full skirt at the Golden Globes 2017, complementing it with a pretty braided updo. “For Olivia’s Globes look, we wanted to create a unique hairstyle that played off the textures, colors and intricate details of her Zuhair Murad dress,” her hairstylist Marjan told Stylish. She opted for an “inside out” French braid while the rest of her hair was blown out straight, pinned in place and wrapped into a bun. Culpo paired her dress with Schutz shoes and orange sapphire statement earrings by Lorraine Schwartz.
